I lied
Here’s what we’ll cover:
How to “ethically” lie to prospects and clients

How to Ethically Lie to Prospects and Clients
First, let me set the scene…
You jump into a meeting with a prospect or client.
There are several new faces in the room or on the call.
If you’re like most…
One of the first things you do when kicking off the meeting is the dreaded…
“ok, let’s do a quick round of intros”
Followed by the boring…
“Hi, I’m Jim - I’m the VP of Accounting, and I’ve been here for 2 years”
You should already know this through your pre-call research
It’s a yawnfest
Instead, let me teach you another way.
One that’s:
Way more engaging
Guaranteed to teach you something interesting
Will get your meeting off to a more memorable start
Here’s how to pull it off…
Time: 6 min
Materials needed:
Whiteboard & dry-erase markers or digital whiteboards like Miro or Zoom*
Sticky notes in yellow
Sharpies
Dot stickers (red)
(Here’s an Amazon list to get the last 3 for under $25)
*Most don’t realize Zoom created a Miro alternative (Here’s where you can find it)
After you state the objective for the call, tell the attendees you’d like to start with a quick exercise.
*If you have more than 4 attendees, ask for a few volunteers to help. (I’d suggest keeping it to 4 or under)
Have each participant (including yourself) write their name on the whiteboard.
Then share that the exercise will be the classic icebreaker…
2 Truths and a Lie
The Rules:
First, each participant will have 2 minutes to write their 2 truths and a lie on individual sticky notes.
Once they’re done, they can stick them by their name.
Next, the AE will hand out a page of red voting dots or you can use the “voting” feature in Zoom or Miro. (image below)
ALL attendees will have 2 minutes to vote on what they think the lie is for each person, by placing a red dot sticker on the sticky note.
Once the 2 minutes are up - those who participated will confirm if the others guessed right.
This always ends with a few great stories.
Here’s a pic from this week and what I learned about the client:
He “pop-locked” with Diddy at the MTV house in Miami
First Beat Boxer ever on America’s Got Talent
