3 Use Cases For Visual Selling

Last year I ran a session for Sales Assembly called “Beyond Words: A Crash Course in Visual Selling”

Over 50 minutes, we covered:

  • What is Visual Selling (and why should you care)

  • The 6 Building Blocks of Visual Selling

  • Practical exercises to build your visual vocabulary

  • Tools & resources

Today we’ll look at 3 of the most common use cases of Visual Selling.

(#3 is the easiest)

Use Case #1 - Discovery

Whether in-person or remote - discovery meetings are the perfect setting for Visual Selling.

According to Corporate Visions, Less than 6% of sellers pick up a pen during a meeting. (less than 4% of virtual sellers)

So if you want to differentiate from 94% of sellers, you should build the skill of running a meeting with a whiteboard and some markers or a tablet & stylus.

Use Case #2 Problem Solving

Any time I’m faced with a problem, the first thing I do is run it through the 5W1H method.

It helps me slow down, see the problem from different angles, brainstorm solutions, and find the root cause.

Next time you have a problem - give it a try.

Use Case #3 Solutions Presentations

Slides still have their place, however, one way to make them better is to incorporate a simple visual selling trick.

Underlining, circling, and highlighting text on your slides will help keep your audience's attention. Here’s why:

Our brains are wired to follow movement.

By annotating on the screen - you immediately cause the audience to shift their focus to the movement on the screen.

If you’re new to Visual Selling - this is a great place to start.

That’s all for this week. I hope you learned something new.
