DEEP DIVE

A few weeks ago I posed this question on LinkedIn.

“What’s the most creative thing you’ve done to get in front of a prospect?”

200 comments later, I got some of the most creative and even (outlandish) strategies & tactics sellers have used to get in front of buyers.

If you’re in sales, do yourself a favor and check out all the comments, which I’ll share shortly.

But first…

Here are 10 of my favorites (in no particular order)

  1. “Scraped a list of conference attendees, lifted the conference’s branding inside our marketing email, and sent everyone a “Welcome to the conference” email during the opening keynote. Subject line, “Opening keynote & tour invitation”. With the CTA, “Meet us here after the keynote”. It worked beautifully - But the conference did not appreciate the creativity”

  2. “Had a CRO tell me that if I could get his cell number, he’d sign up for a 6-month trial. After trying to find the number everywhere, I reached out to his mom on Facebook and asked if I sent her and her husband a gift card for a very nice dinner, would she help me out. The rest is history and I’m still friends with this client to this day”

  3. “Sent a prospect a safe with a note that said $100 inside. Call me for the combination”

  4. “I would buy a nice remote control car or plan and send it to them, but keep the remote. I would then ask for a meeting and promise to bring the remote. (Worked well if they had kids)”

  5. “My BDR flew to another city and waited at the bottom of an escalator for 2 hours to try and catch the CEO of Delta Airlines. IT WORKED.”

  6. “Dropped hundreds of golf balls from a helicopter at a charity event with my branding all over them.”

  7. “Sent dozens of balloons, a cake, party favors, napkins, utensils, and a note saying “for us to celebrate when we finally meet for the first time.”

  8. “Bought a burner phone and mailed it in a nice package. A note was on it that the phone would ring at noon PST on 4/17/17. He didn’t pick up the phone when I called but did take my call later in the week and it ended up being my biggest account.”

  9. “During COVID when nobody was in the office and I also hadn’t had a haircut in a LONG time. I drove to a prospect’s office, laid in front of the door with their logo in the background, and climbed into a sleeping bag. I took a personalized video explaining how “long” I had been camped out waiting for someone.”

  10. “Scheduled a teeth cleaning with a Dentist who wasn’t answering my calls”
